Oh we do like to be beside the seaside, oh how we do like to be beside the sea! We have had enormous amounts of fun this morning on the beach near our centre! We went for a paddle, collected shells, built sand castles, soaked in the views and revelled in the sea air! What a beautiful morning to spend together in our final year of primary school.
Low rope activity this morning is certainly testing our balancing skills! Some of us are discovering how well we work in teams of three when the job of two of us is the defence against the one on the ropes falling off!
We are all up and getting ready to go to breakfast. The children all managed to get some sleep but as to be expected some found it a bit strange to be in a new bed and new surroundings. But by 11pm the teachers didn’t hear a peep from any of them! So the adjustment was quick!!! Today we are looking forward to a delicious breakfast and then our morning activities of Low Ropes and Coastal Adventure where we will visit the beautiful sand beach here. It has rained overnight, but it has already started to brighten up so I think we’ll have fine weather to enjoy our morning. We will post more with pictures from the morning activities with children later. 😊
In our evening balloon splat activity we completed a range of activities in competition with each other’s teams to protect our water balloons from being splattered!! It definitely tired us out for a good night’s sleep!
18:08: We have arrived safely and are getting used to our accommodation. We have had the site tour and after dinner are looking forward to our first activity of balloon splash!
The children and teachers are nearly at their destination- they have enjoyed a lovely lunch and spot of sight seeing on the sun deck of the ferry. Getting very excited gazing out to the Isle of Wight as it gets closer and closer!
Today we transformed our class into an Egyptian Museum to exhibit the artefacts we had created over half term for Home Learning to complete our unit on Ancient Egyptian. Parents and carers as well as members of the school community we invited to the museum. Due to a technical difficultly we cannot upload pictures but these are available in the children’s books and parents/carers will be able to view them on parent consultation evening/s.
To mark Black History Month we were extremely lucky to have a whole school workshops provided by external experts in African Drumming and Dance. Focussing in the Halaiki rhythms and beats of East African the workshops used traditional Djembe drums and expressive dance movements that could be used to convey stories, emotions and celebrate occasions.
Thank you to all of our parents, carers and children who helped us make this an enjoyable learning experience for all the children at Aycliffe Drive.
Redwood Class Year 6 had the opportunity to participate in a externally delivered expert workshop on Knife Crime linked to the PSHE learning on how to safe in the wider world. The children showed an admirable appreciation of the issues involved in discussing various scenarios and discovered many important new facts which will help them keep safe in the future, especially as they get ready to leave for secondary school.
Children should arrive back at school at 3pm today (24/06). If the are stuck in traffic, parents will be contacted between 2pm and 2.30pm.
Day 3 continued –
One of our last activities before dinner is Jacob’s Ladder. We could not believe just how far team work could take us. We all got sore necks just looking at them and cheering them on!

We have just finished packing and are ready for our morning activities before heading back to school after lunch – we are very much looking forward to seeing you when we arrive which we estimate to be 3pm. We have all had a brilliant time, learning new skills and growing in confidence daily- can’t wait to tell you all about it!
